The Inveraray Marketing Group (IMaGe) was formed 27 years ago and has produced in excess of 2.5 million visitor guides for the picturesque town of Inveraray and District. The members of the marketing group have produced in excess of 6 million brochures, radio and television adverts and poster campaigns promoting attractions, activities and accommodation in the area over this period. Membership

The only criteria for joining IMaGe is you must represent a tourism related business or organisation in the Mid-Argyll area. There is also an annual membership fee which is very reasonable. The group does not pay salaries nor does it incur overhead charges as these are generously absorbed by some of our members. All monies received for membership and from the website Go Premium package are used to purchase Destination Inveraray & District advertising. Adding or upgrading a Listing

The Inveraray and District web site listings provide tourism businesses with an opportunity to advertise their business and services to visitors. The listing makes it easy and convenient for visitors to browse and find attractions, activities, accommodation, restaurants and shops all in one place presented with a clear and common purpose, Visit Inveraray.

41,000 unique visitors visited the Inveraray-argyll web site last year. 25,500 visitors looked for somewhere to stay. 24,400 looked for something to do whilst in the area. 8,300 visitors looked for somewhere to eat and drink. 7,000 visitors checked out our May Bluebell Festival. The Inveraray Marketing Group (IMaGe) was formed 27 years ago and has produced in excess of 2.5 million visitor guides for the picturesquetown of Inveraray and District. IMaGe’s 27 years’ experience and passion for excellence has earned it a professional reputation. It is recognised nationally as a non-profit visitor organisation for the Inveraray & District area and is majority funded by its members. IMaGe is a membership organisation open to any tourism business in the mid Argyll area. It has an elected committee and a written constitution. IMaGe engages with Argyll & Bute Council, Visit Scotland and other national tourism organisations on behalf of its members. It campaigns regularly and vigorously on tourism issues that affect its members. It continues to mount innovative and successful marketing campaigns to promote Inveraray and District as a quality visitor destination.


Inveraray and District is an established visitor destination and has many unique assets, but it cannot be complacent. Despite Scotland recently experiencing record years for overseas visits and expenditure, the current global economic situation presents many challenges to the tourism sector. Inveraray is also facing growing competition for visitors. IMaGe has identified that while there is considerable individual activity to promote Inveraray and District there remains a need to address the fragmented approach. IMaGe recognises that promotion of the town is undertaken by a range of organisations across an array of business sectors, and that to realise the full potential of any promotion the relationships between the different organisations has to be clarified.


There is a need for a common purpose. There is also a need for leadership, for an experienced organisation to bring people together and speak with one voice and champion destination promotion for Inveraray and District. Put at its simplest, IMaGe needs to align and connect the products and promotion for Inveraray and District. Membership benefits include but are not excluded to:

1.Attending IMaGe meetings several times a year. Add to the debates and the formation of destination marketing policy and its implantation.
2.Voting privileges at IMaGe meetings.
3.Qualify to stand for IMaGe committee elections.
4.Representation at local and national level. Jim Mather MSP and minister for tourism recently attended an IMaGe meeting to engage with the group on the challenges facing the area.
5.Representation at tourism trade shows and events such as the trade to trade Visit Scotland’s Expo in Glasgow or Aberdeen.

7.Adverts and listings on IMaGe produced advertising when applicable.
8.Preferential listing on the IMaGe website. Image members appear ahead of the free listings.
